Delegation From Committee On Foreign Affairs Of The Cyprus House Of Representatives Visits Hellenic House

WASHINGTON, DC -- On June 11, 2002, American Hellenic Institute (AHI) founder Gene Rossides and staff met with a delegation from the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Cyprus House of Representatives for a one hour meeting at Hellenic House. The delegation was led by Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, Chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the Cyprus House of Representatives. Foreign Affairs Committee colleagues joining Mr. Anastasiades included Messrs. Markos KyprianouTakis Hadjigeorghiou and George Varnava. Accompanying the delegation was Cyprus Ambassador to the U.S., Dr. Erato Kozakou-Marcoullis.

The meeting focused on advancing issues of mutual interest regarding U.S. relations with Cyprus, promoting Cyprus accession to the European Union (EU), and working towards a resolution of the long-standing division of the island.

While in Washington from June 11-13, 2002, the delegation also met with U.S. Congressional leaders and Administration officials to discuss the ongoing reunification talks in Cyprus, Cyprus' imminent accession to the EU, and important bilateral issues. Both the U.S. Congress and Administration have expressed their support for UN efforts toward reunification of Cyprus and have strongly backed Cyprus' accession to the EU.
