Secretary General for European Affairs of Greece’s Foreign Ministry Dimitrios Katsoudas Visits AHI

Washington, DC—On January 16, 2008, Dimitrios Katsoudas, Secretary General for European Affairs, Hellenic Ministry of Foreign Affairs visited AHI for a meeting with AHI President Gene Rossides and AHI Executive Director Nick Larigakis. The meeting which lasted for close to two hours, centered on issues of mutual interest regarding U.S. relations with Greece. However, much of the focus within the discussion was on the name issue regarding FYROM.

Mr. Katsoudas was accompanied by Greek Ambassador to the U.S. Alexandros Mallias, Defense Attache Col. Ilias Leontaris and Second Secretary of the Greek Embassy Panagiotis Giotopoulos.

Mr. Katsoudas’ bio follows:

On March 6th 2007 Dimitrious K. Katsoudas was appointed Secretary General for European Affairs.

In 1977 he received the Robert Schumann Scholarship and worked at the Political Affairs Department of the European Parliament.

From 1978 to 1980 he worked as a Political Analyst at the Centre for Political Research and Information (KPEE or CPRI) and he was a regular columnist of the Centr’s Journal “Epikentra.” Between 1980 and 1985 he was Head of Information, and from 1986 to 1991, Director General of KPEE, as well as Editor-in-Chief of “Epikentra.” During his tenure at the Centre, between 1978 and 1991, Mr. Katsoudas organized a number of Greek and international conferences and symposia, as well as hundreds of seminars, promoting the European idea, the scientific dialogue of political ideologies in Greece, and the cause of political and economic freedom.

Besides his regular contributions to “Epikentra” and other Greek publications, he has published a number of articles in prominent foreign academic journals, such as the European Journal of Political Research and West European Politics i.a. Papers of his have been presented in important foreign Universities such as the EUI in Florence, King’s College in London and U.C.L.A. in California i.a. He is co-editor and co-author of the collective volume of reference “Political Change in Greece Before and After the Colonels” (Croom Helm, London, 1987). He is also co-author of «Broadcasting and Politics in Western Europe»(Frank Cass ed., London 1985), as well as of other political analyses and studies in Greece and abroad.

In 1989 and 1990, he was Head of New Democracy’s Strategic Coordination Team for three consecutive elections.

He was Senior Advisor (1988-1990) to N.D.’s Leader K. Mitsotakis; then (1990-1991) his Senior Advisor as Prime Minister.

In 1991 he was appointed first Secretary-General for Forests and the Natural Environment (1991-1993).

He was a member, as well as twice Secretary General of the Board of Directors of the Greek National Opera (1980-1982 and 1990-1994).

Member of the National Radio and Television Council (1989-1991).
