AHI Board Member Alexakis Completes Historic Athens Marathon

WASHINGTON, DC —American Hellenic Institute (AHI) Board Member Kostas Alexakis participated in and completed the historic Athens Marathon held October 31, 2010.  This year’s marathon celebrated the 2,500th anniversary of the original marathon when Pheidippides made the run to Athens to carry the news of the victory at the Battle of Marathon over the invading Persians.

“We congratulate and commend Kostas for participating in this historic event,” said Executive Director Nick Larigakis.  “We know it was a moment of great pride and accomplishment when he crossed the Finish Line. We are proud of him.”

Alexakis stated, “What a great experience it was, both difficult and exhilarating at the same time. I started training for the Marathon in January and it required a lot of discipline but that discipline gave birth to a new attitude about health and wellness.”

AHI salutes all those individuals who paid homage to history and ran in the 2,500th Athens Marathon.
