AHI Congratulates Members of Congress on Letter Regarding the Recent TSA Activities in Occupied Cyprus

WASHINGTON, DC—On December 13, 2004, eighteen members of Congress sent a letter to Secretary of State Colin L. Powell and Secretary of Homeland Security Thomas J. Ridge regarding the recent Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officials’ activities in occupied Cyprus.

This letter was initiated by Congressman Robert Menendez (D-NJ) and Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart (R-FL) which asks for an explanation of the recent TSA officials’ activities in occupied Cyprus, where they were seen investigating the plausibility of flights from the airport of Tymbou, as well as a reaffirmation of the US existing policy towards Cyprus.

This letter circulated in the House of Represenatives and thanks to grassroots lobbying efforts the following Representatives signed onto the letter: Michael Bilirakis (R-FL), Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Randy "Duke" Cunningham (R-CA), Maurice D. Hinchey (D-NY), Robert E. Andrews (D-NJ), Lincoln Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Martin T. Meehan (D-MA), Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY), Anthony D. Weiner (D-NY), James P. McGovern (D-MA), Barbara Lee (D-CA), Diane E. Watson (D-CA), Thaddeus G. McCotter (R-MI), and Chris Van Hollen (D-MD).

"AHI congratulates these members of Congress on their initiative and urges AHI members and friends to contact the signatories of this letter and thank them for their efforts regarding the questioning of the recent TSA officials’ visit to occupied Cyprus. Their letter demonstrates concern over these actions and supports a further investigation of this matter," said AHI Executive Director Nick Larigakis.
