CONTACT SENATE FOREIGN RELATIONS COMMITTEE – CONFIRMATION HEARING FOR U.S. AMBASSADOR-DESIGNATE TO THE REPUBLIC OF CYPRUS

BACKGROUND
The post of U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus has been vacant for nearly one year. At a time when the Republic of Cyprus is at the helm of the EU presidency, and the Republic of Cyprus continues to be the target of Turkey’s provocative actions (i.e., Turkey’s refusal to recognize Cyprus’ EU presidency and Turkey’s threats to Cyprus’ exploration of hydrocarbon reserves conducted by a U.S. firm within Cyprus’ exclusive economic zone), it is crucial the United States has an ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus who is well-versed in the issues that impact Cyprus.
STATUS
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee will hold a confirmation hearing for the next U.S. ambassador to the Republic of Cyprus, John M. Koenig, on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, 2:30 p.m.
ACTION
We urge you to immediately contact the members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and ask them to submit the recommended questions to Mr. Koenig that urges a critical review of U.S. policy to the Republic of Cyprus.
