KATERINA SOKOU is a Greek journalist who has followed the Eurozone since its creation. She came to the US in 2012 as a Knight-Bagehot Fellow in Economics and Business Journalism, worked as a financial reporter for the Washington Post and is currently the Washington correspondent for SKAI TV and Kathimerini Daily, the leading broadsheet in Greece, where she is also a columnist. Katerina combines her knowledge of Europe with perspectives on US policy and her financial journalism expertise with an understanding of the geopolitical forces that shape transatlantic relations. In Washington, she has covered the Greek PM visit to the White House, interviewed US officials, reported from the State Department and the Treasury and broken exclusive stories about the role of the IMF and the US in the Greek crisis. As an Athens-based financial journalist from 1999 to 2012, she had a house seat for the drama in Greece, from the triumphant adoption of the Euro to its current downfall. During the first decade of her career, she worked as financial reporter, foreign desk journalist and Europe editor for To Vima Daily. In 2008, she became an international financial news editor for the Kathimerini, responsible for the coverage of the global financial crisis. During the course of the Greek crisis, she has provided commentary and analysis for CNN, CNBC, Bloomberg, BBC, CCTV, The Times, NewsMax and City A.M. She has also written about various aspects of the crisis for the Washington Post, Ozy Magazine and the Huffington Post. She has an honors degree in History from the University of Ioannina, Greece, a MSc in Journalism from Columbia University and a MA in International Relations from the University of Warwick, UK.
