Famed Singer and Philanthropist Nana Mouskouri to Attend American Hellenic Institute Annual Dinner

The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) takes great pleasure in announcing that Nana Mouskouri, the famed singer and philanthropist, will attend the 24th Anniversary AHI Hellenic Heritage and National Public Service Awards Dinner on March 6, 1999 at the Four Seasons Hotel. Ms Mouskouri will attend as the guest of one of the dinner's honorees, Mr. C. Dean Metropoulos.

Nana Mouskouri's accomplishments as an artist are legendary. She has recorded over 450 albums in ten languages. She has received over 300 golden, platinum, and diamond discs and sold over 200 million recordings. Her last two U.S. albums "Only Love" and "Return to Love" are both golden performers and her last U.S. tour was sold out. Her concert "World Peace" recorded in October 1997 at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York has been shown widely on American television. She was most recently seen on PBS television performing at the conclusion of the series "The Greek Americans."

In addition to her artistic achievements, Nana Mouskouri has dedicated herself to charitable and humanitarian relief works. On behalf of UNICEF she has campaigned tirelessly for the rights of children. She has performed throughout the world in benefit concerts on behalf of UNICEF, including in Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America. Her inspiring vision, she says, is that "We go wherever there are children in need, wherever children are the victims of war, disaster, famine, or poverty." In 1996 she was honored by President Clinton at the UNICEF Child Survival Award ceremony in Chicago. In November 1997 Harry Belafonte presented her with UNICEF's prestigious "World of Children Award."

Nana Mouskouri is a Greek Deputy in the European Parliament and a member of the Legion of Honor in France.

AHI is honored and privileged to be able to greet Nana Mouskouri at its dinner. We hope that her many friends and admirers will join us in making the evening a very special occasion.
