AHI New York Networking Reception Features Former Congressman Michael Pappas

On February 13, 2001, the American Hellenic Institute (AHI) in cooperation with the AHI Greater Metropolitan New York Chapter hosted a networking reception at the Harvard Club in New York City. The event featured Michael Pappas, Regional Administrator for the Small Business Administration and former U.S. Congressman (New Jersey), as special guest speaker.

Michael Pappas was appointed regional administrator of the U.S. SBA's Region II on October 24, 2001. As regional administrator, he is responsible for the delivery of the agency's financial assistance, management counseling, business development and minority enterprise development activities throughout New York State, New Jersey, Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands.

Mr. Pappas' presentation highlighted the efforts of the SBA in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks. The organization's staff from New York City, New York State and New Jersey converged in lower Manhattan to meet with small business owners and to apprise them of services--including disbursement of disaster loans--available through the SBA. The SBA has set up locations throughout New York City where representatives disburse information and provide assistance to people in completing their loan applications. Mr. Pappas also discussed more general services provided by the SBA to residents within Region II.

Special thanks goes out to the event chairperson, Col. Andonios Neroulias, U.S.A. (Ret.), who is also president of the AHI Greater New York Metropolitan Chapter. Host Committee members included: Nicholas J. Bouras, President of Bouras Industries, Inc.; Froso Beys, Buckman & Reid; Peter Chrisanthopoulos, President and CEO of Pappas Telecasting Companies; Maria Dionisiou, Vice President of Olympia Limited, Inc.; Ted Golfinopoulos, TG & Associates; Anna Giabourani, Esq., Associate at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP; Constantinos Grigoriadis, President and CEO of Alpha Finance U.S. Corporation; Michael Karloutsos, Partner at Mak Consulting, Inc.; Peter Kakoyiannis, Esq., Partner at Eiseman Levine Lehrhaupt & Kakoyiannis, P.C.; Dorie Klissas, Producer at the NBC "Today Show"; Elias Lambiris, Esq., Director of Patents at Novozymes North America, Inc.; John Metaxas, Business Leader of Content Development at E*TRADE Group, Inc.; Chris Pappas, Esq., Chris Pappas & Associates; Zaharo Sofianou, Chief Representative of the Bank of Cyprus; Peter Tiboris, General Director & Music Director, Mid America Productions, Inc.; and George Veras, President of Veras Communications.
