The Embassy of Greece and The American Hellenic Institute Announce New Internship Exchange Program in Cooperation With The Next Generation Initiative

H. E. The Ambassador of Greece to the U.S., Alexandros P. Mallias, joins The Hon. Eugene Rossides, President of the American Hellenic Institute, in announcing a new internship exchange program between the Greek Embassy and the American Hellenic Institute.

As part of an innovative collaboration launched in 2006 between the Embassy of Greece and the Next Generation Initiative, an educational foundation which helps place college students in significant internship positions throughout the United States, the Greek Embassy and the American Hellenic Institute are now offering a new series of graduate student internships in their respective offices in Washington, DC.

Selected by the Embassy of Greece and the American Hellenic Institute from a pool of outstanding graduate students of Greek heritage recommended by the Next Generation Initiative (www.hellenext.org) for this prestigious opportunity, the new Greek Embassy-AHIF Internship Exchange Program will offer both Greek American and Greek graduate students strategic insight into the inner workings of diplomacy between Greece and the U.S., two nations which share a long history of friendship and cooperation, as well as a deeper understanding of the dynamics of both American democracy and the wider world of public affairs.

As part of each intern’s tenure at either the Greek Embassy or the American Hellenic Institute, their internship will be recognized in writing by the Embassy of Greece. Where available, opportunities for college credit may also be arranged through their respective universities.

Within the overall framework of the Embassy’s continuing effort with the Next Generation Initiative, this new internship exchange program is intended to play an important role in increasing communication between young Greek Americans with the young people of Greece, and enhancing their understanding of the evolving and ever-changing realities in both countries; help eradicate stereotypes; enrich and renew the interest of the Greek American community in its heritage and culture, while providing the young people of Greece a clearer understanding of the Hellenes of the Omogeneia and of the United States. In other words, it will strengthen the already strong bonds of friendship between Greece and the U.S.
