Vice Admiral Dimitrios Elefsiniotis, Deputy Chief of Operations, Hellenic National Defense General Staff Visits AHI

WASHINGTON, DC — On April 28, 2009, Mr. Dimitrios Elefsiniotis, Vice Admiral of the Hellenic Navy, visited the American Hellenic Institute’s Hellenic House. The Vice Admiral was joined by Colonel Taxiarchis Sardelis from the International Relations Division of the Greek Ministry of National Defense and Defense Attaché Designate to the Embassy of Greece in Washington, D.C. They were accompanied by Brigadier General Ilias Leontaris, Defense Attaché of the Embassy of Greece in Washington, D.C.

Vice Admiral Dimitrios Elefsiniotis and Col. Sardelis were in Washington, D.C. on the occasion of the Greek Minister of National Defense Vangelis Meimarakis visit to Washington to meet with U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.

The discussion entailed various topics of mutual interest ranging from U.S. relations with Greece, Greece’s role in the Middle East, Turkish violations of the Hellenic air space over the Aegean Sea, and the Greek military’s deployment in multiple areas around the world. 

“We were honored to have Vice Admiral Dimitrios Elefsiniotis and Col. Sardelis visit Hellenic House. We look forward to working with them in the future to continue strengthening U.S. relations with Greece and in pursuit of common goals and objectives,” said AHI Executive Director Nick Larigakis.
