AHI Founder Gene Rossides Honored with the Peter N. Derzis Award for Hellenism at the 40th Anniversary Gala of AHEPA Chapter 438

WASHINGTON, DC — On May 30, 2009 AHI Founder Gene Rossides was honored by the Peter N. Derzis Award for Hellenism on the occasion of the 40th Anniversary Gala of AHEPA Chapter 438 hosted at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center, VA.

The Peter N. Derzis Award for Hellenism is presented to individuals and organizations whose contributions in support of Hellenism and devotion to humanity, freedom, and democracy have been noteworthy.

“Who better to receive this inaugural Peter Derzis Award for Hellenism....than a person who has devoted his life to the advancement of Hellenism and the defense of freedom and democracy...a true hero and role model in every sense of the word whose insistence that we uphold the rule of law in matters of US foreign policy has made inroads and achieved results for the Greek and Cypriot communities previously unimaginable!,” said James E. Stoucker, President of AHEPA Chapter 438.

In response, Gene Rossides said, “I am very pleased to receive this award because Peter Derzis was a close friend who gave full support to our efforts on behalf of the rule of law and because AHEPA is the heart and soul of Greek America in every state throughout our nation.”

The Peter N. Derzis Chapter 438, located in Arlington, VA, is one of the largest in the country with an extended membership in excess of 1,500 families. Since receiving its charter in 1969, the Chapter has been at the forefront of numerous public service activities within our community. The Chapter has a long history of involvement in a broad range of charitable activities at the local and national level.
