AHI President Receives Prestigious Award from Hellenic Parliament

WASHINGTON, DC — American Hellenic Institute (AHI) President Nick Larigakis received the Medal of Hellenic Parliament during AHI’s recent delegation trip to Greece on May 27, 2011. President of the Hellenic Parliament Phillipos Petsalnikos presented him with the award.

“I was deeply touched, humbled and honored to receive the Medal of Hellenic Parliament from its president, Mr. Petsalnikos,” said Larigakis. “This is a unique award that I will cherish. My pledge is to continue to work ceaselessly on behalf of the American Hellenic Institute to strengthen the partnership between the United States and Greece.”

A scroll and portfolio accompanied the Medal of Hellenic Parliament. The scroll eloquently states, “To a notable man that offers his life to democracy and the nation, not only in Greece but also in the New World beyond the ocean, we award this medal with our best wishes.”

Larigakis was named president of AHI on January 1, 2011 after serving 19 years as the organization’s executive director. During his time at AHI, Larigakis’ responsibilities have included working with the U.S. Congress on U.S.-Greece-Cyprus relations, where he has provided witness testimony to several congressional committees; and as liaison to the grass roots community, traveling throughout the U.S. to educate the public about AHI’s public policy issues and other aspects of its mission, among other duties.
