AHI Sends Issues Questionnaire to Congressional Candidates

WASHINGTON, DC — The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) has distributed its 2012 Congressional Candidate Questionnaire to the campaign offices of candidates from the two major parties and select independent candidates who are running for congress.

“The questionnaire surveyed the candidates on issues that are of great importance to the Greek American community that involve U.S. relations with Greece and Cyprus, as well as developments in southeastern Europe and eastern Mediterranean region,” said AHI President Nick Larigakis “Issues such as the Aegean Sea Boundary, the outstanding FYROM name issue, a just and viable Cyprus solution, Cyprus’s sovereign right to explore for hydrocarbon reserves, religious freedom for the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and a critical review of U.S. policy toward Turkey, are addressed in the questionnaire.”

Larigakis added, “Many candidates will be on the campaign trail in August. We strongly encourage the community to urge congressional candidates, incumbents or challengers, to complete the questionnaire.”

AHI will facilitate the distribution of candidates’ responses and positions to the Greek American community. AHI has asked candidates to return the questionnaire by Monday, September 24, 2012.

The American Hellenic Institute is a non-profit independent Greek American public policy center that works to strengthen relations between the United States and Greece and Cyprus, and within the Greek American community.
