AHI Releases Campaign Statement from Senator Menendez

WASHINGTON, DC —The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) received a campaign statement (340KB PDF) from Senator Robert Menendez (D-NJ) that it is releasing to the Greek American community. In August, AHI submitted a 2012 Congressional Candidate Questionnaire to the campaign offices of candidates from the two major parties and select independent candidates who are running for congress.

“We thank Senator Menendez for taking the time to present his positions on issues of importance to the Greek American community,” said AHI President Nick Larigakis. “The senator’s positions are in strong support of our community’s issues. Although we have received a variety of basic responses from candidates that we are in the process of consolidating, AHI is releasing his statement to the community because of the detailed specifics his response provided.”

The senator addresses issues pertaining to Greece, including the Aegean Sea boundary and FYROM; Cyprus, religious freedom for the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and U.S. policy toward Turkey.

Larigakis added, “Many candidates will be on the campaign trail in the next six weeks. We strongly encourage the community to urge congressional candidates, incumbents or challengers, to complete the questionnaire. It is not too late.”

The American Hellenic Institute is an independent non-profit Greek American public policy center that works to strengthen relations between the United States and Greece and Cyprus, and within the Greek American community.
