AHI Saddened by Passing of Andrew Athens

WASHINGTON, DC —The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) mourns the passing of Mr. Andrew A. Athens on March 14, 2013, in Chicago.

“Andrew Athens was an exceptional American and tremendous Hellene,” said AHI Founder Gene Rossides.  “I admired his passion for Hellenism and his unselfish work on behalf of Hellenic causes and the Hellenic community worldwide. Our deepest sympathies, thoughts and prayers are with his family.”

“Andrew Athens was a tremendous American who fought and sacrificed during World War Two for the values that make America a great nation,” said AHI President Nick Larigakis. “It was with this same spirit and fervor that Andy fought for Greece, Cyprus, the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and for all things important to Hellenism and Hellenic causes.  May his memory be eternal.”

The American Hellenic Institute is an independent non-profit Greek American public policy center that works to strengthen relations between the United States and Greece and Cyprus, and within the Greek American community.
