AHI Works to Get U.S.’ Next Ambassador to Turkey on the Record

WASHINGTON, DC — The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) wrote to members of the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on European Affairs today, asking them to consider a set of questions as they prepare for the nomination hearing of the Honorable John Bass to be U.S. ambassador to Turkey.  The hearing will take place July 15, 2014.

“It is important to get President Obama’s nominee to be the next ambassador to Turkey on the record especially because recently we have seen a high level of United States engagement on issues such as the Cyprus settlement talks,” AHI President Nick Larigakis said. “We’ve seen very encouraging remarks from Vice President Biden, especially on Cyprus and religious freedom in Turkey, and it is our hope the administration’s next ambassador to Turkey is on the same page.”

The American Hellenic Institute is a non-profit Greek American think tank and public policy center that works to strengthen relations between the United States and Greece and Cyprus, and within the Greek American community.
