Record Number of Golfers Compete at AHI’s Annual Golf Classic; Panel Discussion on Sports Held

WASHINGTON, DC — On October 20, 2014, the American Hellenic Institute (AHI) hosted its Eleventh Annual Golf Classic at Belle Haven Country Club in Alexandria, Va.  A record number 64 golfers participated. Celebrity appearances were made by Larry Michael, Voice of the Washington Redskins, Christine Brennan, journalist, USA Today, and John Brazer, director of Publicity, Philadelphia Phillies, who appeared at a morning sports panel to discuss current events and issues affecting the sporting world. The Tournament Sponsor was Calamos Investments.

“We are very pleased that our Annual Golf Classic continues to grow each year,” AHI President Nick Larigakis said.  “We hope to be able to continue to build on this success. We are also grateful to our organizers, our generous sponsors, and golfers who took the time to support AHI.”

The first place team was comprised of: Mike Mathews, Mike Gleeson, Dave Riddle and John Hockman.  Second place honors went to: John Brazer, Dickie Noles (former pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies), Tommy Greene (former pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies) and Scott Nickel (Philadelphia Phillies’ director of corporate sales). The third place team included: Chris Christou, Allen Lyubinsky, Thomas J. Anthis and Jaime Moreno.

Larigakis added, “We especially appreciate the support of tournament sponsor Calamos Investments under the leadership of CEO John Calamos and represented at the tournament by Dr. George Tsetsekos, advisor; and the participation of Larry Michael, Christine Brennan and John Brazer, who took the time from their busy schedules to present an enjoyable panel discussion.”

In addition, Larigakis expressed appreciation to Tournament Chair Leon Andris and to Golf Coordinator Adriana Sifakis, who organized the tournament.
