AHI President Honored by Community of Glossa, Skopelos, Greece

WASHINGTON, DC —The Worldwide Association of Glossa Descendants honored American Hellenic Institute (AHI) President Nick Larigakis for his distinguished work around the world as AHI president on behalf of the Greek Diaspora, at “ARAMIS” Taverna, in Loutraki, Skopelos, August 5, 2016.

The Association’s leadership: Sotiris Dionysiou, president; Michalis Falkos, secretary; Ioannis Stamatiou, vice president; Thomas Sakarikos, treasurer; and Giorgos Orfanos and Mr. Vakoulas, association members, presented President Larigakis with a commemorative plaque.  It reads:

In honor of our compatriot
Mr. Nicholas Larigakis
President of the American Hellenic Institute
For his distinguished presence in the international fora and the Greek Diaspora in the USA, notably honoring Glossa of Skopelos as his homeland.
Glossa, August 2016

“Nick has dedicated himself to continuous work in promoting the ideals of the Greek community in the United States, and in other parts of the world, together with his colleagues,” the presenters said. “Nick learned to love Glossa since he was a child and has considered it his special home.  This has been instilled by his parents who always took care to return to [Glossa] whenever they we able, and who no matter how many years passed by, never ceased to have Glossa as first place in their hearts.”

In acceptance, Larigakis said, “Out of all the accolades I have received, today’s honor is one of the most important in my life.”

Larigakis added that throughout his travels he takes great pride to state his roots are from the island of Skopelos, and specifically, from Glossa; and he is also very careful in his words and deeds to make the people of Glossa proud.  He thanked the committee for the honor bestowed upon him and wished them the best, pledging to continue to do whatever he can to advance the causes of the town of Glossa.

The American Hellenic Institute is an independent non-profit Greek American public policy center that works to strengthen relations between the United States and Greece and Cyprus, and within the Greek American community.
