New Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Meets with AHI

WASHINGTON, DC —Representatives of the American Hellenic Institute (AHI) met with new U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Jonathan Cohen, September 16, 2016, The introductory meeting with Deputy Assistant Secretary Cohen, who previously served in Nicosia, Cyprus as Deputy Chief of Mission, took place at the U.S. Department of State.

“We greatly appreciated the opportunity to meet and become reacquainted with Deputy Assistant Secretary Cohen,” AHI President Nick Larigakis said. “We welcomed the substantive discussion we had on issues of importance to the community. We look forward to working with him on U.S. policy in the eastern Mediterranean region in the best interests of the United States.”

As deputy assistant secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs, Cohen’s portfolio includes Greece, Cyprus, and Turkey.  The discussion with Cohen focused on the Greek American community’s issues and positions vis-à-vis each of these three countries.

AHI Legislative Director Georgea Polizos joined Larigakis at the meeting.

The American Hellenic Institute is a non-profit Greek American public policy center and think tank that works to strengthen relations between the United States and Greece and Cyprus, and within the Greek American community.
