AHI Announces New Hire; Milios Joins Staff as Legislative Assistant, Special Projects Coordinator

2016peter photoWASHINGTON, DC – The American Hellenic Institute (AHI) is pleased to announce the hire of Peter Milios as the Institute’s Special Projects Coordinator and Legislative Assistant.

“We are excited and fortunate to have Peter join our staff,” AHI President Nick Larigakis said. “In college, Peter served in many capacities that required a significant amount of responsibility and accountability.  The legislative experience he gained through his internships in Florida, and his demonstrated passion for international affairs, will be a tremendous asset to our mission.”

Peter holds a Bachelor of Science in International Affairs and Political Science from Florida State University.  He also obtained a minor in Middle Eastern Studies and a certificate in Emergency Management and Homeland Security.

“It is an honor to work for AHI,” Milios said. “The Institute had fostered the strong bonds between the United States and Greece and Cyprus, and works to promote Hellenism.  I look forward to assisting in this capacity and giving back to the community, which has given me so much.”

Throughout his collegiate career, Peter gained legislative experience as an intern for U.S. Senator Marco Rubio, the Republican Party of Florida, and Florida Senator Tom Lee. He also gained legislative experience by serving on the Board of Directors for the Student Government Office of Governmental Affairs, a lobbying arm of the student body to the Florida Legislature. On campus, Peter served as chief of staff to the Student Body President. In this capacity, Peter was the sole undergraduate student appointed to develop a five-year Strategic Plan for Florida State University. Peter also served as the vice president of his fraternity.

Internationally, he interned for the P.L.O. Delegation to the United States and attended an educational trip to Israel called Caravan for Democracy. Peter is also a graduate of the 2014 AHI Foundation Student Foreign Policy trip.

Peter is originally from Orlando, Fla., and spent the past summer volunteering at the Ionian Village Summer Camp in Greece.

The American Hellenic Institute is a non-profit Greek American think-tank and public policy center that works to strengthen relations between the United States and Greece and Cyprus, and within the Greek American community.
